Earth Day 2013

The Earth as seen from Apollo 17

In a world going a little bit crazy right now, I've been trying my best to think of something I could do to make our planet a better place. Besides praying like mad for the families of those affected by the Boston Marathon bombings and the whole community of West, TX, and practicing a few random acts of kindness (all of which made me feel a little less hopeless and heartbroken about current events in our country), I couldn't come up with anything spectacular. I was feeling a little overwhelmed … [Read more...]

2013: Changes

Pinterest Addict

I know I'm a bit late on this, but Happy New Year!! According to the Mayan Calendar, we aren't supposed to be here right now. Or at least there should have had some kind of event that would have altered life as we know it. Actually, there were many interpretations of what was supposed to happen at the Winter Solstice, and based on your beliefs (spiritual/religious etc) you might, or might not, have bought into them. Now that December 21, 2012 has past, and we are all still alive and … [Read more...]

Pins I’ve Tried: Christmas Tree Cones

Christmas Cone Tree

One of my best friends in the whole wide world, Tracy, came over to visit a few weeks ago. She brought her three little people, who are perhaps some of my favorite kids ever. They have such sweet personalities and are bundles of non-stop energy. They make me miss having small people running around our house.   Before they came up, Tracy and I decided that it would be a good idea to do a fun project with the kids when they were here. So, Tracy found this pin, which was the perfect … [Read more...]

Olympic Themed Birthday Party

Olympic Invite

My son's birthday is in August, so his birthday party always happens about two weeks after school starts. He will be going to middle school next year, one that none of his friends will be attending, we decided to have his party early this year. In honor of the Summer Olympics in London this year, we settled on an Olympic Games theme. So, we sent out the invites... And on Saturday, I  got my son and his friend to paint the sign to welcome the Competitors to the Games. We put … [Read more...]

Happy Easter

Nothing like the smell of cinnamon in the morning to get kids out of bed.

We are on our way to my sister's house to celebrate  Easter and my little brother's birthday.  Before I go, I wanted to share what I have been up to this morning. To try to pry the kids out of bed  (mine aren't small anymore, so they tend to sleep in) without having to dump cold water on them, I tried out this pin hoping it would coax them out of their slumber... But I changed it a little. I didn't mash the butter together with the sugar (I used brown sugar instead) and cinnamon. I … [Read more...]

My Daughter’s 18th Birthday

Olive Penguins

My daughter turned 18 the other day. To be honest, the idea of her being an "adult" both terrifies and excites me. I can't get over that my baby is old enough to vote, buy lottery tickets and make her own decisions, etc. I see her making plans for someday moving out, and it brings me to tears. I know it's such an exciting time in her life and I'm happy to see what a fabulous person has grown into, and I know she will do great things, but she is still my "baby" and always will be. I guess the … [Read more...]

Lego Birthday Party

DSC_1376

One of my dearest friends from high school, and fellow Pinterest addict, Tracy, has three little munchkins who are seriously the sweetest kids on the planet. And each year on their respective birthdays, there is always a party to celebrate their special day. Even before Tracy started her Pinterest addiction, she was creating fun and fabulous birthday parties for her little people. To date, there have been fairies, princess, pirates, puppets, police and garbage men at their parties. There are … [Read more...]

Friday FAIL!!!

http://pinterest.com/pin/454230186/

My son is having a few friends over tonight for a bonfire, so I decided to make brownies for them. I saw the cutest idea on Pinterest, and thought I would try it out. Aren't these just the cutest?! I thought, how easy would this be? So, I mixed up the brownie batter, sprayed the pan and the cookie cutters and carefully poured the batter into them. Placed them in the oven, and waited. It smelled so delicious... Timer finally rang and I went to pull them out of the oven and this is … [Read more...]

My Week of Thanksgiving

Give Thanks

It's been quiet here for the last few days because I was getting ready to host Thanksgiving at our house, and then recovering from the event for two days. Every year, I think it should be easier since I've done it so many times now, but in reality, it's always a crazy flurry of activity until the day arrives. Then in ten minutes, dinner is eaten, and all that is left is the mess and the memories. This year, in true Addict fashion, I did quite a bit of experimenting with pins for the occasion. … [Read more...]

Pinning away – Halloween

Painted Trees by my husband

As I've mentioned before, I love Pinterest. For those of you that don't know the wonder and joy of Pinterest, it's a virtual cork board of sorts. For years, when I found something I found interesting online, I would bookmark it, and then promptly forget about it. Now, I can save all everything to my Pinterest boards and it's there for quick access when I am ready to start my projects. What I love even more is that I can see what other people are finding. I can't begin to tell you how much this … [Read more...]

Easy Halloween decorations

Woman's Day Halloween Hurricane Lamps

While looking for Fall decoration ideas, I found this on Pinterest. While I don't eat much candy corn, decorating with it is fabulous! (Visit Woman's Day for more ideas on decorating with candy corn.) I loved them because they didn't scream "HALLOWEEN!!" at you, so you could use them for all of Fall. Perfect for me because I am not someone who will change decorations too frequently. The only problem was that I wasn't going to pay $40 for the large hurricane glass, or even $25 for the … [Read more...]
