Starting a vegetable garden isn’t as easy as it looks…

I was pretty excited about all the peppers, but my tomatoes weren't coming up.

Maybe a better title for this post would be "I'm a plant murderer". A few months back, I was inspired by this pin, and many others like it, to start a vegetable garden. It looked easy enough - plant seeds in little pods, use old concrete blocks to build a raised bed, fill with garden soil, add plants, water, watch them grow, weed the beds and pick lovely veggies/make lots of salads. Uhm... yeah, not so much. The part about planting the seeds in little starter pods was easy enough, … [Read more...]

“Shedding” some projects from my list…

Sorry that it's been a while, but my little brother was here for almost a week (on and off) and I didn't want to stop to post while he was busy working his fingers to the bone. Having him here is such a blessing, as I finally get to cross a ton of stuff off of my "to-do" list, and the relief I get from being able to do that is amazing. One of the things we were able to finish was such thorn in my side for a while now - the shed! When I went to buy it off a Craigslist seller, it looked like … [Read more...]

Shooting myself in the foot

Project chair

Did you ever do something you later regretted? Yeah, I've done a bunch of things I wish I hadn't, too. But, the other day, I was feeling kind of guilty for snatching up the Stiffel lamps for so cheap ($2 each) from an organization that uses the money they make on sales to help people. So, I sort of mentioned that I couldn't believe that they were selling Stiffels for $2, but cheap Walmart (sorry, Walmart, but these particular lamps were kind of cheesy) lamps for $39. What kind of sense did that … [Read more...]

My week in review…

From Twice Lovely

Things have been a little quiet around here in terms of projects. I know, shocking, right? Well, to be honest, I've been kind of stuck in a rut on a couple of things. Like what to paint on this cute little cabinet now that the base paint is done. It's now painted a beautiful shade of Night Tide, by Rustoleum. Love the color, it's yummy! I would love to do something like this - as recommended by Melinda. Isn't it the cutest? But I'm hesitant because I'm afraid of committing to a … [Read more...]

A thank you, some yard work, and one more question answered

Ugh...

Leapin' Lizards!!! I can't believe how fast my little blog has grown in the past two weeks! Over 250 followers, and it's had over 40,000 hits! Crazy! Thanks to all of you for making it happen. I am enjoying all the comments and suggestions, and I hope that they will continue to come my way. If you are new here, as most of you are, don't be shy - say hi! Many of you have found me due to my post about painting a chair using Tulip's fabric spray paint, and quite a few of you have said you are … [Read more...]

Lamp post

Yesterday, we awoke to a very foggy day. I love foggy mornings because it makes the world feel peaceful and calm. Since it was Thursday, a school day, I had to drive my son to school. We headed out to the car, and could barely see 50 feet ahead of us. It was a little spooky, I have to admit. As we drove down our dirt road, we were treated to some of natures more awe inspiring works of art. Spider webs. Hundreds of them. Cocooning stop signs... Hanging from fence … [Read more...]

Curb Appeal

Front garden

When we moved in to our house in June, the yard was a blank slate. Well, not really a blank slate, more of an overgrown, unplanned, unloved jungle. Our house is on 5 acres, which is fenced off to make three separate paddocks, and about one and a half acres in the middle where our house sits. Around the house, there were only three sad and anemic looking palm trees around the pool, all in desperate need of a good trimming and a boat load of fertilizer. This is what a Christmas Palm should … [Read more...]
