A Carriage Fit for a Princess

Stagecoach to Princess Carriage

My sister, MB, is having another baby girl in a few weeks. To say it simply, I'm pretty excited about it :) My niece, Charlotte, is getting a whole new bedroom set because the new baby will be using her "baby" furnishings. And this is where I have stepped in. My sister doesn't have the same kind of interest in re-doing furniture as I do, but she does appreciate a good, solid piece of furniture - and saving money. This is Charlotte - or as she says, "Sharlie". She is just as … [Read more...]

I Can’t Be Trusted at the Big Sale

Angie's Elephants

Let's face it, I don't have any more space in my house for any new furniture. So, when I headed out today to the Big Sale at Faith Farm, I knew I'd be buying some pieces to re-do so I could sell them. But, I think I might have gone a little overboard today. I just know that my husband probably will be accompanying me to the next sale, and holding on to the credit card. Yikes. Here are a few of the things I bought today. Can you picture this bamboo cabinet in a bold and fun … [Read more...]

Thrift Store Treasures

brass P

There isn't much that we still need for the house, in terms of furniture. However, I keep trying to find interesting pieces to make the house feel more like a home. In the last few trips to my favorite thrift store, I've found a few things I think are fun. Want to see? This bull I found for $2 - I know it wasn't hideous before, but we don't have a lot of gold/brassy accessories in the house. So, I used some Rustoleum Hammered Primer and paint in one to take it from gold to black, with a … [Read more...]

The Thrill of the Hunt – Bon Ami

Bon Ami

One of my favorite things to do is to go thrifting. I love to thrift for a few reasons, first one being that I truly believe that we should recycle and re-use as much as we can - it's just good common sense. I don't know how many times I've seen perfectly good pieces of furniture left at the curb, when there is always someone who can use it.  … [Read more...]

My Wassily Chair and other thrift store finds

Wassily Chair

Last week, after I dropped my son off for school, I found myself with many hours to kill and no desire to stay home. I had a ton of errands that needed to be run, so I packed up the car with all the things I needed to either return or mail, and got all the boring stuff done in about an hour. Then, I headed to my favorite spot, Faith Farm. … [Read more...]

Painted China Cabinet

Navy and White Painted China Cabinet

A few months back, I found this beautiful china cabinet. Okay, so maybe it wasn't so beautiful yet... Well, that's not the whole cabinet, because when we got the cabinet into the house, it was too heavy for me to pick up and move by myself, so we just placed the top on the ground so I could paint it without the use of a ladder.  Therefore, I didn't get a picture of the whole thing together. Ugh. When will I learn? It is made by Drexel, and it was in great condition. The lights work, it … [Read more...]

Upholstery project #2

I love the leopard print!

Yesterday, I showed you some of the chairs I have painted, including this one. Well, obviously, it's the before picture. I found two of these chairs at a garage sale for $10 a piece. They were clean, and not stinky, and so comfortable. SOLD! Love their shape - but the pattern? Not so much. Since I had priced getting them re-upholstered and found the cost too high, I decided to paint them using the tutorial from Hyphen Interiors. This is how they turned out... And you could still … [Read more...]

My latest thrift store treasures

From Decorpad.com

I've been running around lately looking for fabric for the chairs I am re-covering, and checking little thrift stores and consignment shops for the chairs that I am hopelessly in love with. I'm sure you've seen these before - and all over blogland - but I desperately want them. I haven't had much luck at all finding them - except for one little shop that had a set of six for $2400! I knew they were expensive, but that's way more than I want to spend. It made me sad to leave that store … [Read more...]

Shooting myself in the foot

Project chair

Did you ever do something you later regretted? Yeah, I've done a bunch of things I wish I hadn't, too. But, the other day, I was feeling kind of guilty for snatching up the Stiffel lamps for so cheap ($2 each) from an organization that uses the money they make on sales to help people. So, I sort of mentioned that I couldn't believe that they were selling Stiffels for $2, but cheap Walmart (sorry, Walmart, but these particular lamps were kind of cheesy) lamps for $39. What kind of sense did that … [Read more...]

Chair update

Voila!

For a few days here, in south Florida, it was too cold for spray painting outside. No, not for the spray paint, but for me - brrr! However, today is a beautiful day so I finally got to finish painting the chair legs and arms. One of my readers (hehe - that's funny to say - my readers - it still hasn't hit me that I have a few :), Susane, suggested a few different options, and I took one of them. I chose to paint them a muted nickel. I really like how it's turned out. Looks awfully blue in … [Read more...]

I think I need an intervention…

For the Boy's room

For my thrifting addiction. I can't seem to stop myself. This hobby of mine is getting out of control. I see beautiful old pieces of furniture with great lines, and solid construction and I. MUST. HAVE. IT!! I know I don't have a place in my house to put most of it, but I want to take it home with me anyway. I'm convinced I can strip off the ugly, and give each piece new life. If it won't fit in my house, I'm sure I can find someone who will love it. And so, because of this, my garage is filled … [Read more...]
